Interning at a Boutique PR Firm

What it’s like to be an intern at an eclectic PR firm

By Alice Abrehart

I can guarantee that every college student trying to make their way into any career field has had an angry rant about how you need experience to get experience. It is truly a vicious cycle that I know all too well, but then, an opportunity to work at Rosen Group PR came along.

Being able to intern at Rosen Group is truly an eye-opening experience into the hustle and bustle of the PR world. I was assigned to work on four accounts ranging from Food and Beverage to Arts and Culture to Nonprofits with a steady flow of ad hoc assignments for other accounts. This kind of variety ensures that I have plenty to do and am gaining well-rounded knowledge and experience in different industries. Naturally, the kind of PR work that you’re doing such as press releases, media research, coverage reports, and so on, are along the same lines across every industry but there is always a bit of a different angle for each. As an intern, the PR world feels big and scary.

There are so many parts of the industry that are constantly and quickly changing so it’s really all about learning as you go along. I would say that the most important experience that you can gain in an internship is real-world experience. Rosen Group is fantastic about letting you dip your toes in real client work. I have been able to pitch writers, edit releases, pull together media research, and sit in on client calls.

Each opportunity given at Rosen Group is propelling me into a space of comprehensive knowledge and confidence in the PR world no matter the sector. The guidance and feedback I have received from my colleagues and supervisors has been immensely valuable and can guarantee that what I have learned as an intern will be the foundation of everything, I am able to accomplish in the future.
